NSRnews

Why hello small munchkin being, this is the News section of NSR! That's right, NEWS e.g. stuff that either inadvertently or directly affects YOU, as a student or a non-student. But mainly as a student, for we are Student Radio.

Anyway, my name is Kate and I'm the News Editor. Basically, if you are a student at Newcastle, and you have a story or an issue that you feel needs to be raised, you can e-mail the News Team at the address provided and raise this issue with us. Likewise, if you have an event that you feel deserves to be publicised, let me know. This is YOUR radio station, and thus the issues of the day are to be mainly determined by what affects YOU.

Obviously, we are aware that a lot of you are kept up to date by The Courier, which, I think we can all agree, is a pretty kick-ass publication. So for why, you may ask, are we bringing you the news too?

Well, the reason is just that: The Courier be a weekly newspaper, we be a radio station. In politically correct terms we lead different, yet equally valid lifestyles. Myself and my Deputy, Kathleen Moore, are responsible for running a News Team with an interactive focus which will manifest itself in our Current Affairs show, which is broadcast every Wednesday from 5pm until 7pm. This show will feature an in-depth and, crucially, interactive discussion of the current political climate in the UK, as well local isues. We will be providing live vox-pops from students, and will also ask opinions on certain issues from people with a wide range of political viewpoints. In addition to this, we will be promoting student services and issues that we feel are intrinsic to the happiness and general welfare of students. For example, how many of you have seen the ncl+ logo, and wondered what it's all about? Well, as we will quite happily tell you, it's worth checking out (just click on the link here ).

There are two blogs in this section. Firstly we have a Newcastle News blog for keeping up to date with goings on in the Toon, and will be run by the entire News Team. This will be updated regularly. Also, as I am concerned at the lack of political commentary among the student body, I am going to be posting a regular Current Affairs blog (read: Editorial Comment) which will basically be varying summations of UK-wide issues and decisions being made from the 'top end' that will ultimately affect us as residents of Britain.

We will also not be sitting on our collective arses too much, and will be out and about trying to uncover stories and gage the general feeling of students from all degree courses and age groups in order to provide an unbiased commentary of life as a student in this brilliant city. Also, if you wish to get involved with the News Team, or simply want to come on air and tell students directly about an issue which you believe to be very important, let us know and we will be happy to accomodate you.

Cheers for reading all that, and feel free to e-mail me at any point in time (NSR.news@ncl.ac.uk)
